Belper Post Office

Belper Post Office 1904

Young postal workers outside Belper Post Office on King Street (now Specsavers) in April 1904. It moved to Strutt Street in 1909.

George Roulson was the postmaster at the time. These would have been the youngest of the Belper postal workers, acting almost as a ‘rapid response’ team, such as when telegrams needed to be delivered quickly in the town centre.

There are a number of recruitment advertisements in the window, including for the Sherwood Foresters, the Royal Army Medical Corps and the Army Ordnance Corps.
