In 1932, Edna’s business is recorded as a café. There were bread ovens in the basement which may relate to this.
Next door you can see part of the shopfront for G. Wood and Sons grocers.
Edna was also a chevinning missus, distributing Belper-made stockings out to home-based chevinners for them to stitch on fine patterns of flowers or other designs, before collecting them and returning them to the hosiery factories in town.
